Today: Sept 6th is YouthWorker Appreciation Day. Here are some things you can do:
1. Write an encouraging note to a fellow youthworker. 2. Send him or her a free subscription to the Journal of Student Ministries. 3. Offer to buy them some resources for their own personal library. (Goto the Christian bookstore to do this today) 4. Give them a gift card to their favorite place. (Tickets to sporting events works too) 5. Offer to babysit their kids. 6. Buy that ever so important office knickknack for their office or home. 7. Have all the students sign a banner or card telling them how important they are to the ministry at the church. 8. FREE Food. 9. Ask what they may need. Get involved in their lives. Share your story and how important and valued they are to you. 10. Write on others' blogs on what you did. So in my own transition here in Maryland ... I've been trying to work with certain bankers who we wanted to help in our closing costs. We thought we had it all settled but were we wrong. Fact is we've been lied to. Not once, not even twice but several times - including from a bank manager right in front of us. Oh, we'll take care of it ... it should be done by the end of the day and I'll give you a call. It's been almost 24hrs since that conversation and still waiting for that phone call. Frustrating.
And then there is the whole MVA (DMV) getting your title transferred. Oh, we sent that fax just now ...only to find out(The next day) that there was never a fax sent and a copy of the title was mailed off. (Good thing our tags didn't expire the end of August, eh? which we thought they did)
Why can't businesses do what they say and mean what they do? You would think common sense would come into play. Like when we were in NC - we just said we have our car loan with this company - and the DMV was like ok...here's your plates - we'll take care of the title and the paperwork. In Maryland - it isn't so. And then the company doesn't cooperate either. Sheesh!!
I'm just glad Jesus tells us to love our enemies. Forgive those that do wrong against you. Boy, have I had to do alot of praying lately!!! I just wish people told the TRUTH!!! Read More...

In this week’s LIVE Youth Ministry Conversation we talked about how we can evaluate the spiritual depth of our youth ministries. We all want our youth ministry to take teenagers deep in the Word so that it changes their lives, but is that really happening in your group? Most youth workers tend to think that, [...] Read More...
Personally before any expansion to Kansas, Vegas or any other U.S. town even to relocate ... there are already several possible and more viable market and revenue options in the Works in Canada.
Let me just name TWO cities that could make more revenue and also add to the mix some History and some Great controversy and loyal fans to the Game (which they were already) ... Ready for it:
Give Ole Jim a Franchise in Hamilton. Copps is Big enough. Hamilton is ready. Sabres and Leafs are selling out. Another Franchise in Ontario = $$$.
Secondly Give Winnipeg a chance. When the jets left it was devastating. Canadians support the sport. Love the sport. And would do anything for a team. Vegas and KC almost seem like an afterthought. Hey, let's pick the craziest and oddest place for a Hockeytown. Makes sense, right??? Well to our current commish maybe. Read More...
Just a few days ago I was dropping off my little girl at the babysitters when I noticed a wasp swirling around our feet. I quickly picked up Kailey and whisked her inside the door. The last thing I want to see is my sweet little girl get stung by an angry wasp.
When I turned to leave I saw something I had never seen before, a spider and a wasp fighting it out. This spider (which was a big one) must have jumped up and snagged the low flying wasp out of mid air.
It was a sight to see, the wasp stinging away at the body (torso?) of the spider and the spider biting away at the neck (thingamajig?) of the wasp. I waited for about a minute to see who would win. The creepily big spider had his/her/its eight legs fully wrapped around the wasp and the wasp was stinging to the tune of about three hits per second.
Kailey (my little girl), Katie (our child care provider) and I just watched to see who would be the victor. After about a minute I crushed them both and proclaimed, “Man wins.”
I’m sure that I could draw some spiritual analogy here about how God called humankind to rule over the beasts of the field but I probably would open myself up to the venomous bites of pro-insect/anti-man activists. So I won’t.
But I’m sure glad that God doesn’t do to us what I did to them. If anyone had a right to use the boot of el-crush-a-you it’s Him. After all in many ways we act more like spiders and wasps with each other than men and women created in the image of God. But he is patient, not willing that any should be smashed but that all would come to repentance.

I am just writing a session on "safeguarding" for the new CYM (Centre for youth ministry) students. If you have any useful handouts, exercises, policies, statistics or stories then I would be very grateful for the use thereof ............. will swap for the stuff I have written thus far (and a bag of marbles).

I noticed these on Darren's blog and thought they were a great idea! Throw and Tell balls for discussion starting etc (there's lots of different ones). I e-mailed the U.S of A based company to find if I could order but didn't get a reply.
Oh, have found they are available from Eden and I've ordered some :-) Review will follow some time soon!

Back in July I featured Steve Quatro in our LIVE Youth Ministry Conversation where he gave us ideas for encouraging teenagers to consider ministry as a full-time career. He gave lots of insights about the need for this generation to start becoming pastors, especially before the baby boomer generation retires and leaves a lot of [...] Read More...

Marcus has some great Commandments when we start to discuss politics.
On a personal note ... I take pride in the fact that no matter who wins ... God is still in control and has ordained that person. (Romans 13:17) Read More...
